I Got The Wonky Host Blues
Let’s see if I can get this posted.
Reason #99 to keep your websites hosted across several different webhosts:
When your hosting goes down (which most webhosts experience some sluggish times once in awhile), not all of your websites are affected or down at the same time.
Although I host through a few different webhosting services, I didn’t pay too much attention to the IP numbers when choosing who to host with. It ended up that yes - I use different hosts, but some of them are actually sitting on the same IP. . . doh!
As of now I have 8 websites just…barely…crawling, but they’re still up. Just very very slow.
So moral of the story:
Spread your websites across various webhosts
Check the ip of a host before purchasing webhosting
Sometimes it happens though that a webhost you are using *moves* onto a server that you’re already on. That bugs me, but it has happened to me.
That’s one of the prices you pay when you deal with reseller hosting or cheaper hosting packages.
Maybe when I get really big, and Google decides that my sites are #1 for every term - I’ll get a dedicated or two. ![]()
