One of my directories is really starting to build up quite nicely and there are many websites submitted that I am impressed with. Design, quality of content, topics, really some amazing stuff. It’s been so refreshing to see that not everyone is madly developing Adsense Cheese sites .
Unfortunately I find myself rejecting several directory submissions daily. Why? Many times it’s because the directory’s Submission Guidelines weren’t followed.
Keyword stuffing in the Title request field
Subdomains or deep links submitted rather than the top level of the domain (example: superaff.com/bookmarks.html rather than just superaff.com).
When you are requesting a link to your website, ensuring that you follow the submission guidelines for each directory actually *helps* you get your website listed. No it doesn’t guarantee a listing, but following the guidelines increases your success rate.
Don’t think of the guidelines as rules that were made to be broken. Think of them as *very helpful hints* as to how to get your website approved. When you ignore them, chances are your listing request won’t be approved and you will be missing out on free inbound links to your site.
Before I come across as the Directory Queen who never makes an error in her own submissions – I’ve been there, done that – and have learned submitting links is not the best thing for me to be doing in the middle of the night or for hours at a time. 😆
I think it is safe to say though that there aren’t too many directories accepting deep links or keyword stuffed titles and descriptions. If you are doing this and finding a real hard time getting your website accepted into directories, take a look at what you are submitting and see if you can clean things up a bit to work within the guidelines of each directory.
When you pay attention to the submission guidelines, and submit your information accordingly, I am confident you will notice a big jump in your successful directory submissions. 😉
Is it raining where you are? Nothing but rain rain rain here in my neck of the woods for the past few days. Everything sure is nice and green though. Whatever the weather is like where you are, let’s spoil the dads rotten today!
Happy Father’s Day to all the dads out there!
